Frequently asked questions

How do I import transactions from my bank?

Go to Settings → Import CSV and select a CSV export from your bank or credit card statement. SmartMoney will match columns automatically where it can and let you confirm the mapping before importing.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings → Export CSV to save all of your transactions as a CSV file, which you can open in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets, or import into another app.

I added a transaction, but my account balance didn't change. Why?

Each account has an Auto-Reconcile from Transactions toggle (Net Worth → tap an account → Edit). When it's on, the account's balance is automatically recalculated from its linked transactions. When it's off, the balance stays exactly as you set it, and transactions are tracked for reporting only. New accounts you create have this turned on by default; existing accounts keep whatever you last set.

How do I add a cash account?

Go to Net Worth → Add Account (+) and choose Cash as the account type. Cash accounts skip the bank/institution fields since there's nothing to link.

How do I change the currency?

Go to Settings → Currency and pick from the supported list (USD, EUR, GBP, INR, CAD, and more). This changes how amounts are formatted throughout the app.

Can I log an expense with Siri?

Yes — try "Hey Siri, log an expense in SmartMoney," or add the Log Expense shortcut from the Shortcuts app. You'll be prompted for an amount, merchant, and category.

Does SmartMoney sync across my devices or back up to iCloud?

SmartMoney itself does not sync anywhere — it has no network access and no account. If you use Apple's standard encrypted iCloud device backup, your SmartMoney data may be included in that backup the same way any other on-device app data is, but that's handled entirely by iOS, not by SmartMoney.

How do I delete my data?

Delete individual transactions, accounts, budgets, or bills directly in the app. To erase everything at once, uninstall SmartMoney — since all data lives only on your device, nothing remains anywhere else.

Does the Left to Spend widget need special permissions?

No. The widget reads the same on-device data as the app through a private App Group container — it doesn't require network access or any additional permission.
